Immigrant communities contribute every day to the strength of our state and deserve to live without fear of unlawful government action.
For 15 years, Lauren worked in the fight against human trafficking, so she takes the threat of international crime in Tennessee seriously. She supports strong, lawful immigration enforcement, but will not coordinate with federal agencies that violate the Constitution in the process.
In making decisions to defend our state, Lauren recognizes that:
- Legal immigrants are strong advocates for fair enforcement, and their voices matter more than identity politics.
- ICE operations should never be allowed to deny constitutional rights to anyone on U.S. soil.
- Governors do not have the authority to override federal mandates, but should use every legal and legislative tool available to defend their states against federal overreach.
- Current federal deployment decisions, such as sending TWRA agents to Memphis and withholding National Guard support for storm cleanup, reflect poor leadership without moral or practical justification.
- Legislation forcing all local law enforcement to join ICE's 287(g) program will make local communities less safe, dissuading vulnerable populations from reaching out to law enforcement for help.
