Whatever our politics, most Tennesseans want to see fewer abortions, and agree that abortion should not be used as birth control. The current total ban, however, criminalizes doctors and endangers mothers, and it hasn't worked, since abortions increased after these bans, and mothers were pushed across state lines for life-saving care.
Lauren supports repealing the total ban and replacing it with common-sense legislation that trusts women to make these decisions with their doctors. That means real protections in cases like lethal fetal anomalies, rape, incest, and trafficking. Her main focus is lowering the numbers with solutions that address why women feel they have no choice: guaranteed contraception, full reproductive healthcare, relief from the cost of living, childcare options, and eliminating maternity care deserts. Consistent with existing federal law, elective abortions would not be paid for by taxpayer dollars.
