After 15 years in the anti-trafficking space, Lauren supports alleviating the burden on law enforcement agencies in solving crimes, but that should not impede on our rights as private citizens. Tennessee needs clear, transparent policies on limiting data retention and data sharing. ALPR cameras should be limited to use for comparing captured plates to a relevant database including vehicles that are stolen, involved in missing persons cases, unregistered, or involved with other law enforcement interests. They should not be used to capture and track the daily movements of all citizens. Measures should also be put into place to ensure cameras put alongside roadways meet safety standards.
